A Washington, D.C., man has been convicted on charges including second-degree murder while armed, after a jury found him guilty of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend's new lover, according to U.S. Attorney's Office. Marcus Walker, aged 23, was also convicted for assaulting an adult female and a six-year-old child who were both present during the shooting, in addition to second degree cruelty to children and firearms offenses.

D.C. Superior Court heard how Walker, who had been living in his ex-girlfriend's living room, erupted in violence on October 11, 2022, after becoming incensed over hearing her and her new beau, Erik King, in the throes of passion; the horrific incident saw King shot twice, and resulted in his immediate death. Walker sent a barrage of aggressive texts, for roughly an hour prior to the fatal encounter, then he proceeded to kick down the locked bedroom door and, after his demand to cease their intimacy went ignored, he opened fire, hitting King once in the chest and another in the scrotum, he, despite the traumatic scene, could not reset to a mode of calm as a child looked on.

U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Chief Pamela Smith of the MPD announced the jury's verdict, which arrived on May 7, according to the release by the U.S. Attorney's Office. Sentencing for Walker is now set for July 19 by the Honorable Robert Okun.

The prosecution laid out a case backed by irrefutable government evidence and witness testimony, the trial revealed that the tragic events unfolded in an apartment in Northeast Washington, D.C., where a young child was a bystander to the fatal gunshot exchange; The Metropolitan Police Department conducted the investigation into the chilling episode as Assistant United States Attorneys Lauren Galloway and Alec Levy led the prosecution.
