Free Wifi Planned For Duboce Park, Alamo SquareFlickr/torbakhopper
Mayor Ed Lee has just announced that 31 parks, playgrounds, and plazas around the city will soon be getting free wifi, thanks to a gift from Google.

The company is donating $600,000 with "no strings attached," according to the Chronicle, to outfit the parks with equipment for 2 years' worth of free wifi. The parks include our own Duboce and Alamo Square, as well as Dolores, Marina Green, Balboa Park, Civic Center, Corona Heights, and a couple dozen others. Before this becomes a reality, the project must get approval from the Planning Department and Rec and Parks Commission, and the Board of Supervisors will have to sign off as well. Assuming that all goes through, the process of installing the equipment is expected to begin in November, with completion by next April. We'll see...
