Gone is the long wooden pew bench from last year, as well as the small coffee tables that replaced it. In their place are brand-new custom-made tabletops made from black walnut slabs. Owner Remy Nelson started this project about a year ago, buying roughly hewn pieces and slowly converting them to the luxurious counters that they are today. Unsanded and raw, the wood required multiple days of sanding before the surface was smooth. All the natural cracks and holes had to be patched (and then sanded again) before being coated in a shiny clear lacquer that truly brings out the natural beauty of the wood. The final product? Well, it's pretty gorgeous. Mojo now has tables raised to stool height to serve both people standing up as well as those that want to sit while sipping on their cup of joe. Yes, the ceilings may seem a tad bit lower, but the whole effect is cozy and warm. Plus we like it when we hear of local business owners doing all the hard work themselves. Head on in and check out their new tables on one of their popular pop-up nights (tonight, it's Rice Paper Scissors' Vietnamese fare).
