Checking In On The Long-Vacant KJ Produce SpacePhoto: Nuala Sawyer / Hoodline
Ever since KJ Produce closed its doors in 2012, the neighborhood has kept a sharp eye on the vacant storefront it left behind. In recent weeks, tipsters have glimpsed construction workers coming and going from the Divis and Page building, and we've received an influx of inquiries about the future of the space.
In an effort to appease the curious masses, here's what we know so far.

A building permit was filed in April of this year, and was approved in August. The recent construction is most likely a reflection of that, with the permit delineating a structural upgrade, a new concrete floor in the storage space, and a new wooden door.

When we talked to construction workers last week, we learned that it could take months to fully rebuild the foundation, so we can assume that the place isn't in great shape.

As for a possible new tenant, rumors abound. For a while, word was that a popular local coffee company was moving in, though the company has since denied the rumor. The most recent speculation suggests that a bakery could be taking over the space, but that's all we've heard for now.

So there you go, neighbors: you now know as much as we do about the fate of that little storefront on the corner of Page and Divisadero.

We'll keep you in the loop as we learn more, and if you've got more information, don't hesitate to drop us a line at tips {at} hoodline {{dot}} com.
