As you may recall, Burning Man kicks off this week. If you're not of the ones left behind, you might be among the hundreds of preparatory bliss bunnies flocking to the Haight's merchants to equip yourself with last-minute gear for the desert.

If you are, you'll be happy to know there's a new option in town: the three-month-old Playa Place, normally an online-only option that has set up shop for a few days at Second Act.

The brains behind Playa Place aim to offer a one-stop shop for tents, clothing, used bikes (fully equipped with fur) and all your other basics. The pop-up is both a delivery point for online orders (in case you're arriving from Germany, say) and a store unto itself.

Most of the bikes sold out in the first few days (basic low-riders are going for less than $100; the de-luxe model shown below runs a couple of hundred), but there are still some under construction out back.

The proprietor said he wanted to provide an affordable alternative for travelers to pick up playa gear without resorting to cheap Huffys from Target or Wal-Mart. He was shooting to provide the basics, not frilly extras. "If people want 200 pink wigs," he said, "they'll be able to get them somewhere else."

Playa Place will be open from 11am to 6pm at Second Act (1727 Haight Street) through Wednesday August 27th.
