Upper Haight Weekend Odds & Ends: Construction Progress, Hardly Strictly Lineup And MorePhoto: Camden Avery/Hoodline
It's Labor Day weekend, the Burners have flocked to the desert, and things are afoot in the Haight. Here's what's up this weekend.
First, construction continues on the remodel project at the Red Vic, which has passed the gutting-with-a-dumpster phase and seems, from outward appearances, to be progressing nicely.

Then there's the progress on the handsome new school at 1155 Page Street, the new early childhood development center built by the French American International School on land leased by the San Francisco Unified School District. According to the project's web site, the new building opened yesterday.

According to owner Dave McLean, Alembic may finally be ready to unveil the new kitchen and roll out a fall menu in mid-September. We're awaiting the new menu with bated breath.

In music this week, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass finally announced the artist lineup for the free three-day music festival in Golden Gate Park in early October. Performers this year include Mavis Staples, Conor Oberst, Ryan Adams, Yo La Tengo, Thao & the Get Down Stay Down, and dozens of others.

Tomorrow, Saturday August 30th at 2pm, Amoeba is hosting an in-store free live show with Philadelphia-based Strand of Oaks.

Burning Man is also happening this weekend, which means now's your chance to avoid brunch lines if you want to have a crack at Zazie, Parada 22, Sparrow or Magnolia.

But whatever you do, stay safe, play nice and don't pass out in the barbecue pit.
