Biergarten's Gnome Week Kicks Off Tomorrow, With Oktoberfest To FollowPhoto: Lucas/Flickr
Ahh, Gnome Week, that special time when beer-loving woodland dwellers venture out from their hidey-holes to celebrate Belgian brewery La Chouffe
For the second year running, you won't have to go far to celebrate, as Biergarten is set to join in the fun starting tomorrow, September 17th and lasting through Friday (three days being equal to one gnome week, clearly).

Like gnomes themselves, the event is a bit mysterious. Is one expected to bring gnome friends along? Dress up like a gnome yourself? Or merely embody the philosophical tenets of gnomehood (garden work, humility, beer, etc.)?

In fact, the event is designed as an homage to one legendary gnome—said to be the last of his kind—who gave his secret beer recipe to La Chouffe's founders back in 1981. To celebrate, Biergarten will be tapping the brewery's Houblon Chouffe Trippel IPA and, on Friday the 19th at about 6pm, will join hundreds of bars in celebrating "the World's largest smallest toast," with mini-mugs of the beer raised in acknowledgment of gnomedom's contributions to brewing.

In addition, Aaron Hulme of Biergarten and Suppenkuche notes that Wednesday's special Biergarten burger "would be pleasing to a gnome." We'll leave it to you to find out what exactly that means.

Gnome Week leads directly into Suppenkuche's Oktoberfest kickoff on September 20th, and Aaron notes that the event sets people up with the right attitude to celebrate appropriately. Oktoberfest officially begins in Munich at noon on the 20th, and Suppenkuche's celebration will kick off on Saturday at noon as well, with lots of Oktoberfest brews on tap, plus food, outfits, specials, t-shirts and more. The celebration will then spill over to Biergarten, which will open as usual at 3pm.

We'll see you and your gnome friends out there. Prost!
