If you were on the move very early Tuesday morning, you may have found a swath of Octavia blocked off  with yellow tape and police cars around Lily and Page.  The reason was a vehicle collision in which no one was seriously harmed, as others reported at the time
But we've found out more details: crimes were in progress, according to police, and a suspect "may be at large."

According to a police spokesperson we talked to, three burglars had stolen a white Jeep Cherokee SUV from elsewhere in the city the night before, and were using the vehicle to help them carry out a burglary early in the morning on the 500 block of Hayes. The vehicle ran a red light at around 4am while in the process of leaving the scene and crashed into a taxi.

One of the suspects in the SUV and one of the taxi passengers were taken to SF General with non life-threatening injuries, but the two other suspects made a break for it. The police arrested one, but the spokesperson believed the other to still be outstanding. The streets were clear by around 6:30am.

That's all we know so far, but we'll update you with details if we find out more.

Thanks to Anne M. for the tip.
