Upper Haight Weekend Odds & Ends: Crime, Halloween Preparations And MorePhoto: Mendels/Facebook
Halloween is just around the corner, and the neighborhood is starting to feel a bit spooky. We're starting off the weekend with some interesting tidbits in crime and mayhem, plus upcoming events, Halloweeny and otherwise.
First off, the Examiner reports that a man's camera was stolen from his car on Wednesday afternoon while he was inside, on the 500 block of Ashbury. The perp broke the passenger side window and snatched the camera.

Then, yesterday afternoon, SFPD Park Station Captain Raj Vaswani caught up with a felon on probation at Lucky on Fulton:

Getting ready for Halloween next weekend? Mendel's art supply is offering 25% off of everything this weekend. Get your paints, furs, feathers and whatever else you need, and check out their creative ideas for turning pumpkins into Halloweeny decorations (per their photo, above).

Also regarding Halloween, on Friday, October 24th at California Academy of Sciences, you have a chance to get spooky in the museum with the SuperNatural Halloween party. With live animals, magic shows, face painting and a giant pumpkin carving, the event is decidedly kid-friendly, so bring the family and keep the sexy shark costumes to a minimum. Tickets are $50 for adults and $35 for kids, with $5 off for members.

Feeling like something less spooky? Milk Bar is again hosting their Queen Is Dead party, so you don't have to go another minute without your favorite Morrissey and The Smiths from 9pm to 2am. Free for early RSVP or $5 at the door.

Then, even though registration is closed, the Nike Women's Half Marathon gets underway Sunday, October 19th: it kicks off at 6:30am in Union Square and the course runs up Fell from Scott St. into Golden Gate Park and JFK Drive: drivers beware!
