Inner Sunset Holiday Events: Chanukah Celebrations, Xmas Carols And MoreFlickr/Windell Oskay
It may only be Thursday, but there are plenty of festive events on tap for this weekend in the Inner Sunset, starting tonight.

Tonight:

Author Event with Catherine Lacey
Start time: 7:30pm
Price: Free

If you’ve ever daydreamed about running away from it all, tonight’s author event with Catherine Lacey might be for you. In Lacey’s debut novel, “Nobody is Ever Missing,” a woman from Manhattan slips away from her family and buys a one-way ticket to New Zealand.

According to the publisher, Lacey’s book is a “high-stakes search for the dark heart of the self” that’s “full of mordant humor and uncanny insights.” Local author Diane Cook will lead the conversation.

7:30pm, Green Apple Books on the Park, 1231 9th Ave.

Chanukah Happy Hour
Start time: 7 pm

Ellen Holderman and Rabbi Nosson Potash are hosting a Chanukah Happy Hour at Reverie Cafe Bar. The latkes and donuts are free and there will be a cash bar. A suggested donation of $5 or $10 will cover the costs of food and drink. RSVP via Facebook and/or donate using Eventbrite.

7 - 9pm, Reverie Cafe Bar, 848 Cole St.

Friday, December 19:

Everything Bagel Party
Location: The Honey Hive Gallery
Start time: 7pm

Head to the Outer Sunset on Friday for the Everything Bagel Party at The Honey Hive Gallery, an all-ages space on Judah just a few blocks from Ocean Beach. Six bands and 13 artists are listed on the lineup, and the hive will buzz until 10 pm.

7 - 10pm, The Honey Hive Gallery, 4117 Judah St.

Festival of Lessons & Carols
Start time: 7:30 pm

Seventh Avenue Church is holding its annual Festival of Lessons & Carols; if you want to sing traditional Christmas songs in a spiritual setting, this is your happy place. Each year, the church commissions a special work; for 2014, the selection is Рождество 1963 года (Christmas, 1963) by Nicholas Rastegar.

7:30pm, Seventh Avenue Church, 1329 7th Ave.

Sunday, December 21:

4th Annual Menorah Lighting & Festival
Location: Grattan Playground
Start time: 3 pm

Rabbi Potash is back in action at the 4th Annual Menorah Lighting & Festival at Grattan Playground on Sunday afternoon. All are invited to a two-hour party that includes live music, food and drink and face-painting and juggling by AcroSports.

This will be a very child-friendly, hands-on event: attendees will assemble a 9-foot LEGO menorah that will be lit before the end of the gathering. RSVP via Facebook.

3-5pm, Grattan Playground, 1180 Stanyan St.
