This Weekend In The TL: Live Theater, Sketch Comedy, Pool Party And More(Photo: Chambers eat + drink / Facebook)

Sticking around the city for Memorial Day weekend? While it may feel half-empty already, there are actually quite a few free and cheap events to be enjoyed in the Tenderloin. Here's what's coming up this weekend:

  • If you're in need a good laugh, Killing My Lobster can help. This sketch comedy troupe — which thrives on fast-paced humor only San Franciscans could understand and calls PianoFight (144 Taylor St.) home every third weekend of the month — takes the stage at 8pm Friday as well as 8pm and 10pm Saturday. This month's theme is "murder," so expect lots of mystery, mayhem and debauchery.
  • Just around the corner at Exit Theater (277 Taylor St.), Cutting Ball Theater's experimental play Mount Misery continues with shows at 8pm Friday and Saturday, and 5pm Sunday. The show imagines what it would be like if former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and abolitionist Frederick Douglass were to meet. While tickets are generally $25-$45, the staff over at Cutting Ball Theater let us in on a little secret: anyone who lives or works in the Tenderloin is welcome to show up to any performance and request a pay-what-you-can ticket at the door. As long as there's a seat available, they'll give you one for whatever price you can afford.
  • Speaking of naming your price, don't forget that just a few blocks away the Theater of Others is performing Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew this Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the Kelly Cullen Community Auditorium (220 Golden Gate).
  • Looking for something a little more active? Local historian Peter Field is hosting a free Tenderloin walking tour at 9am this Sunday. This tour only happens twice a year, so history buffs won't want to miss it. Meet at Powell and Market to join the tour.
  • Also on Sunday, Chambers (601 Eddy St.) is hosting a poolside dance party from noon-7pm this Sunday. And it looks like we might actually get some sun just in time.
  • Or, if all else fails, go have a beer with your pup (or someones else's) at Emperor Norton's Boozeland (510 Larkin St.). The back patio is open 12-8pm daily.

Have any interesting Tenderloin events to add? Let us know in the comments.
