Divisadero Leftovers: Ice Cream Month, Possible Parklet, Barbershop Award And MorePhoto: Bi-Rite/Facebook

For many, the holiday weekend has already started—but for others, there are still a few more hours before you can clock out. Either way, catch up on Divisadero's latest neighborhood news before you start your weekend revelry:

  • On both Saturday and Sunday evenings, The Independent will be hosting live screenings of the Grateful Dead concerts behind performed in Chicago. The evenings, called Fare The Well: A Celebration of 50 Years of Grateful Dead Simulcast, are free to the public with a 2-drink minimum, and the July 5th concert event will be the last time the band will play together. More info here

  • According to a sign in Bi-Rite's window, it's officially National Ice Cream Month. As an added perk, the purchase of any ice cream from the Divisadero location will help support another local Divisadero business: San Francisco Skate Club. This month, Bi-Rite is helping to raise funds for the local skate camp and shop. Last month, over $1,300 was raised for Lyric. Can ice creamery patrons beat that number for July? Loosen your belts and head on down.

  • A hearty congratulations is in order for local barbershop J.P. Kempt, which recently won San Francisco Magazine's Best Barbershop in SF award.

  • La Urbana is hiring for a Kitchen Manager and Chef. Requirements are 2+ years of management in a fast-paced kitchen, familiarity with Mexican cuisine, and good leadership and interpersonal skills. More info here.

  • Fans of Nopalito, check out this video of chef Gonzalo Guzman as he discusses his roots and love for food with Stephen Satterfield of Nopalize

  • Is Repose getting a parklet? According to an interview with SF Weekly, it might be! We'll follow up with the owner and let you know when the promised parklet might be forthcoming. Where else would you like to see (or to not see) parklets on Divis?

  • Looking ahead, controversial changes to the 5-Fulton bus route will be discussed at a Public Hearing on July 10th. As a reminder, the changes could include bringing traffic lights to McAllister Street, as well as the addition of ladder-style crosswalks and transit bulbs. The hearing will be held at City Hall at 10am on July 10th, in room 416.

  • It's still more than two months away, but vendor spots are filling up fast for the annual Alamo Square Flea Market. This year the market will take place on September 13th, so mark your calendars. If you're interested in selling some wares, sign up with the Alamo Square Neighborhood Association here.

Have an excellent holiday weekend!
