If you're sticking around the city this holiday weekend for some old-fashioned Independence Day fun, the Tenderloin is not the place to be. But if soulful live performances, sexually-charged pool parties and bringing your own beer to a comedy club sound like a perfect weekend, you're in the right place.

Here's a closer look at this weekend's top to-dos:

Friday, July 3rd

Game On! — 2pm, The Mix at SFPL (100 Larkin St.). Teens ages 13-18 are invited to bring a video game and a friend for an hour and a half of friendly competition.

Digital Device Drop-In — 4pm, Main Library (100 Larkin St.). Not quite sure how to use your phone, tablet or laptop? Bring your devices to the fifth-floor Computer Training Center, and staff members will be happy to assist.

Max Chanowitz — 6pm, PianoFight (144 Taylor St.). Hailing from Oakland, jazz pianist Max Chanowitz will be playing a free two-hour show.

Maria Muldaur — 7:30 & 10pm, Biscuits & Blues (401 Mason). A night of blues with the Grammy-nominated artist, who rose to fame with the 1974 folk-blues hit “Midnight at the Oasis," and has recorded more than 40 gospel, R&B, jazz and big-band albums over the past 50 years.

Saturday, July 4th

Stars, Stripes and Sexual Nature — 12pm, Phoenix Hotel (601 Eddy St.). A six-hour poolside dance party. Grab your American-flag swimsuit and jump in.

Hostel Comedy — 7pm, PianoFight (144 Taylor). Comedian Andrew Roberts helps a tourist staying in a nearby hostel write and perform their first ever stand-up comedy set. 

Kyle Rowland Blues Band — 7:30 & 10pm, Biscuits & Blues (401 Mason). The award-winning harmonica player offers a mix of "Chicago and swampy Texas blues with a pinch of West Coast swing."

Stand Up Comedy with Rising Stars — 10pm, Our Little Comedy Club (287 Ellis St.). This bring-your-own-booze comedy show lets you see six budding comedians for only $10.

Sunday, July 5th

Terrie Odabi — 7 & 9pm, Biscuits & Blues (401 Mason St.). A two-time winner of the Bay Area Regional Finals International Blues Challenge, Oakland native Odabi brings soul and wit to her live performances.
