Today, tipster Luke wrote in to let us know of the possible closure of yet another Castro-area eatery. "Apparently Pie on Church Street is closing very soon due to high rent," he wrote.

Update: The company shared the following with us via the Hoodline Facebook page.

Hi there - I would like to let you know that our decision to close had NOTHING to do with high rent. We decided we would rather focus our efforts on expanding our bakery and hours on Baker Street so we can bring more pies and cakes to the community on a daily basis. We look forward to re-opening our Baker Street location this Friday, Sept. 11!

We contacted Chili Pies at 314 Church St. to confirm, and as it turns out, the location is indeed closing very soon. In fact, its last day will be tomorrow, Sept. 5th, and it will close its doors for good on Sunday after four years in the neighborhood.

“The location is closing but will be joining up with Chili Pies on Baker Street," said Terrance, an employee at the location. Both Chile Pies (Sweet & Savory) on Church and Chile Pies (& Ice Cream) at 601 Baker St. are affiliated with Green Chili Kitchen at 1801 McAllister. Heather at the Baker Street location confirmed the closure, noting that some staff of the Church Street location would be coming over after the Castro Chile Pies closes its doors.

Heather also informed us that the Baker Street Chile Pies has upcoming renovations on the way, and will be closed from Monday to Friday of next week for changes to decor and the "internal landscape" of the space, plus some menu updates.

There's no word on the cause of the Church Street closure, aside from our tipster's report, but if you can't stop by tomorrow to say goodbye, fans of Chile Pies' Mexican chocolate pecan pie and savory Frito pie varieties will still be able to get their fix up on Baker Street once it reopens next weekend.
