Got an event you want the neighborhood to know about? To be included in our next North Beach weekly roundup, please fill out the form at this link.

Here's what's been happening around North Beach heading into the long holiday weekend.

There was a fence-mending party last Saturday co-organized by both Julie Christensen and Aaron Peskin supporters with over 50 North Beach residents gathering together at the former Piazza Market (627 Vallejo St.). The event gave locals the chance to talk about the needs of the neighborhood outside of the heated rhetoric of the District 3 supervisor campaign.

Hoodline spoke with the team behind the Madame Tussauds wax museum in Fisherman's Wharf (145 Jefferson St.) which includes not just 65–70 figures at any given time, but also a "Spirit of San Francisco" room that features influential Bay Area natives including Janis Joplin, Jerry Garcia, Robin Williams and Harvey Milk.

Candy store Z. Cioccolato (474 Columbus Ave.) has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $5,000 which will be invested into a remodeled kitchen, an updated logo, a revamped front window and a new website. Donors will receive rewards like a variety box of fudge ($40) or a food tour of North Beach that includes creating and naming their own fudge ($500).

After a few years of legal battles to stay open, and having declared bankruptcy just last month, it appears Pier 2's Sinbad's Restaurant closed for good on Monday night. The ferry terminal that is scheduled to replace the eatery will begin construction late next year.

The latest organization to be affected by the skyrocketing area rents is the Jewish Learning Institute who may need to leave their 720 Lombard St. location after eight years early next year. While the JLI scrambles to find a new space in North Beach, they will continue their community outreach with a menorah-lighting at North Beach's Festival of Lights on December 10th and a children’s Hanukkah celebration on December 13th.

Both SF Eater and The Chron jumped on the news that the Original US Restaurant is moving into the 120-seat space which previously housed Colosseo (414 Columbus Ave.) and plans to open in early December. The new Seven Fishes fish restaurant will move into the Original US Restaurant's old digs in the spring.

7x7 wrote about six classic North Beach Cafes which includes several running along Columbus in addition to Caffe Trieste (601 Vallejo St.), the oldest cafe on the West Coast.

Some music royalty swung through town last weekend as guitarist and Led Zepplin founder Jimmy Page arrived unannounced at the Beat Museum. Museum founder Jerry Cimino walked the group around and enjoyed showing Page the 1975 photo of the guitarist and Beat novelist William Burroughs on the museum's second floor.

If you're staying local for the holiday weekend, be sure to swing by the Special Thanksgiving Farmer's Market at the Ferry Building on the Embarcadero to pick up any last minute meal necessities.

And while there's not a ton of other Thanksgiving-themed events in the neighborhood, there is a particularly notable historic one sailing to Alcatraz Island.

"The Indigenous People’s Sunrise Gathering is a commemoration of the 1969-71 occupation of Alcatraz by the 'Indians of All Tribes' and is a one day event" explains the listing on Alcatraz Cruises' site about the historic protest on the island. "This is not the standard Alcatraz Island tour and all areas with the exception of where the ceremony takes place will be closed and inaccessible to the general public."
