SFMTA Wants To Know: Does SF's Parking Permit Plan Still Work?Photo: Andrew Dudley/Hoodline

After an initial round of open houses early this year, the SFMTA is continuing to seek feedback for how to update and improve the city's 39-year-old residential parking permit program. Starting early next week, the agency will kick off a series of 11 open houses around the city, one in each supervisorial district. Per the agency:

While San Francisco’s Residential Parking Permit program hasn't changed much since it began in 1976, the city has. That's why we're continuing our community meetings to address the natural questions: does the program still work? And if not, what changes could make it work better?

At the workshops, SFMTA plans to share results from a survey conducted last fall, as well as to get more input from residents and talk next steps. Some preliminary findings from the survey indicate that 43 percent of those who live in permit areas have a permit, most people with permits rent their homes, and those with only one vehicle are less likely to have a residential parking permit.

The open houses kick off next week in NoPa and Pacific Heights, and will run through early June.
