It's been a busy month for crime and police news in San Francisco, from former SFPD Chief Greg Suhr's forced resignation in the wake of another fatal police shooting to the aftermath of Bay To Breakers in and around the Haight, which included several arrests. Here's your monthly recap.

Apart from the aforementioned stories, the biggest story in crime-related Haight news remains the discovery of a man's remains in Alvord Lake early Tuesday morning. Details about the case are still emerging, but the death is being considered suspicious, and a struggle was apparently involved. The police have drained Alvord Lake to comb for evidence. We'll keep you posted as the story develops.

Another tragedy in the area: Keith Green, the 27-year-old Millbrae man who went missing at the beginning of the month and whose cell phone was found in Golden Gate Park, was found dead in Geyserville last week. His ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend have been arrested in connection with the homicide.

SFPD Park Station has also announced the debut of SF311, a new mobile app for reporting problems and quality-of-life issues. It's just for the small stuff, though, so don't use SF311 in lieu of calling 911 in an emergency.

Most of the reported crime in the Upper Haight for the month was a mix of the usual: vandalism, vehicle thefts and break-ins, sit/lie violations, and theft. But here are a few of the more serious cases:

  • May 6, 4:24 pm, Ashbury and Page: Aggravated assault. "Officers responded to a report regarding an assault that occurred at the above location. The victim was kicked in the face by a known suspect. Officers searched the area with negative results. The incident is under investigation."
  • May 7, 6:46 pm, 1500 block of Haight (between Ashbury and Clayton): "Undercover officers were conducting surveillance when they observed a narcotics transaction take place. Officers immediately stopped all parties involved. During the course of their investigation, officers subsequently determined that one of the suspect was dealing marijuana. After searching the suspect, officers discovered hallucinogens in bags. Officers subsequently arrested the suspect."
  • May 10 and 12, 1700 block of Haight (at Cole): Two retail thefts occurred on the same block of Haight Street, two days apart. Both are under investigation.

Be safe, and stay tuned for further crime updates in the Haight.
