10 Events Worth Checking Out In The Upper Haight This WeekPhoto: Amy Stephenson/Hoodline

It's been a big week in the Upper Haight for book news, with the announcement that the Booksmith (where, full disclosure, this writer also works) will be expanding into the former Second Act space in two weeks.

Accordingly, we're kicking off our roster of week-ahead event recommendations with a packed roster of book readings and signings chez Booksmith, including a cookbook signing with egendary Chinese culinary authorities Kei Lum Chan and Diora Fong Chan tonight, comics legend Ed Brubaker on Monday, and Jonathan Lethem on Tuesday for his release of A Gambler's Anatomy (all at 1644 Haight St., all free and open to the public).

Other offerings for your week ahead include a record release party tomorrow night for Sugar Candy Mountain's new album. And if comedy's your thing, Second Act is hosting both a live set by Scott Capurro and "Nothing's Wrong," a laugh-filled Halloween party.

Here's a roster of goings-on in the 'hood this weekend and beyond. As always, scope out our citywide event listings or submit your own at hoodline.com/events.
