The San Francisco Police Department has arrested and charged a suspect in the killing of Giovanni Hernandez, who was shot and killed on Burr Avenue on Oct. 1st.

Police officers have arrested and charged Salevi Levi, a 22-year-old San Francisco resident, with the murder of Hernandez, as well as the attempted murder of a witness who tried to chase the suspect.

[Update, 4:45pm: The Examiner reports that Levi was, until this week, an assistant coach for the freshman football team at Archbishop Riordan High School.]

SFPD officers arrested Levi on Sixth Street between Market and Mission streets, one month after responding officers found Hernandez lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to San Francisco General Hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

SFPD did not release images of Levi due to “pending identification matters,” according to a press release.

The shooting came over a notably bloody weekend which saw multiple violent incidents around the city, including a critical shooting just hours before, and blocks away from, the Burr Avenue incident.

"Although there has been an arrest made," the SFPD notes, "investigators are asking anyone with information on this case to contact the San Francisco Police anonymously at (415) 575-4444 or text-a-tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD."
