It's been a deadly new year so far.

With two homicides on Dec. 29th wrapping up 2016, two more fatal shootings have kicked off 2017 in violent form.

The Chron reports that the first shooting took place in the Mission at around 2am on New Year's Day, when police responded to a call regarding a person who'd been shot, and found a man with gunshot wounds at 26th & Shotwell. The victim, who has not been identified, died after being transported to the hospital.

Later that morning, a shooting at Third and Oakdale in the Bayview around 11:30am left a man with gunshot wounds to the face. He also died after being transported to the hospital, and has yet to be identified.

Police say they don't think the shootings are connected, but per standard protocol, the gang task force is investigating.

Update, 10am: The Examiner reports that the two victims have been identified.

San Francisco resident Ernesto Rosales, 21, was killed in the Mission. San Francisco resident Michell Smith, 35, was killed in Bayview.
