Are eBooks and backlit tablets leaving you cold? Head to the California International Antiquarian Book Fair this weekend for a chance to handle some dead trees.

Starting today, the three-day fair returns to Northern California for its 50th anniversary inside the Oakland Marriott City Center through Sunday.

As one of the world's largest exhibitions of antiquarian books, the event features nearly 200 sellers from more than 20 countries, as well as local "book art" artists, libraries and universities. Visitors can browse rare books, manuscripts, maps, photographs, and other ephemera, much of which is available for purchase.

Special events will take also place throughout the day, including a Book Collecting 101 seminar and a lecture on the influence of William Blake. This year's featured exhibition by The Bancroft Library at the University of California, Berkeley will focus on California authors and their contributions to fiction. 

BOOK FAIR HOURS:

  • Today: 3 pm to 8 pm
  • Saturday: 11 am to 7 pm
  • Sunday: 11 am to 5 pm
