It's time for another edition of your local crime blotter, taken from daily updates provided by the SFPD. Here's a sampling of criminal activity that happened over the past two weeks—since our last recap—in SoMa.
Mistaken Identity Leads To Kidnapping, Robbery
At 5:45am February 11th, a 26-year-old man was kidnapped and robbed in what appears to be yet another case of mistaken driver identity.
The victim was waiting at 7th and Harrison streets for a ride he had requested. After entering the vehicle he thought was sent for him, the driver drove around the area and parked. Another suspect then held the victim while the driver took money and property from him. The victim fled and called the police. No arrests were made.
While the SFPD has not confirmed whether the victim used a ride-hailing app to request a car, this incident sounds similar to multiple cases of kidnapping and robbery by mistaken drivers in SoMa as well as the Tenderloin, Alamo Square, Marina and Outer Richmond.
Robbery With Force
A 33-year-old woman was assaulted and robbed at 12:32pm February 10th at 15th and Carolina streets in the Design District. The police report states that three suspects—two female suspects and a male suspect, all in their early to mid 20s—approached the victim while she was walking. One female suspect attacked the victim while another suspect took the victim's property and hit her. The suspects took her backpack, purse, wallet and phone and fled on foot. The suspects were not apprehended.
Robbery With Handgun
At 6:25pm February 9th, a woman was robbed by two men on the corner of 7th and Stevenson streets. The two 20-year-old suspects approached the 27-year-old victim, while she was talking on her phone, and told her that they had guns. The suspects simulated handguns in their pockets, took her phone and wallet, and fled. No arrests have been made.
Robbery With Knife
Later that same evening, at 8:30pm, a 37-year-old female victim was robbed at 4th and Welsh streets. A male suspect, age 17-20, approached the victim as she was waiting for the bus, pulled out a knife and demanded her money.The victim complied and the suspect fled on foot eastbound on Welsh Street. There were no injuries and no arrests.
Arson
At 2:05am February 8th, an unidentified suspect lit a vehicle on fire at 10th and Sheridan. The suspect fled in an unknown direction, and the SFPD has not released any additional information on the investigation.
6th Street Assault
On February 3rd at 3:35am, a 48-year-old man was assaulted on 6th Street. The suspect, a 40-year-old female, started a verbal altercation with the victim, then picked up a glass bottle from the ground and struck the victim in the head. The victim lost consciousness and woke to find the suspect gone. He was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. No arrests were made.
Cellphone Swiped
At 1:50am February 2nd on the 600 block of Mission Street, a 22-year-old victim was robbed of his cellphone. A male suspect, 25-35 years of age, approached the victim and asked to use his phone. The suspect then walked away with the device. The victim attempted to recover his phone, and the suspect pushed him. The victim reported minor injuries; no arrest was made.
Western SoMa Stabbing
A 47-year-old man was stabbed in the upper torso at 10:31pm February 2nd at 11th and Harrison. The victim and a man, age 20-30, reportedly engaged in a verbal altercation. When the victim walked away, the suspect stabbed him and fled on foot. The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The suspect was not apprehended.
