It looks like Target may be opening a new store in SoMa. According to documents filed with the city, the retailer has set its sights on the shuttered Sports Authority space at 1690 Folsom St. (at Division).

Sports Authority shuttered last summer, after the chain folded and the brand was subsequently bought out by Dick's Sporting Goods.

Now, Target, which already has four San Francisco locations, has put in a proposal to lease 1690 Folsom St., improve the building’s interior, and make limited modifications to its exterior.

The project has yet to be confirmed, and it's also unclear whether the store would be a more traditional Target, like the locations at the Metreon and Geary & Masonic, or a smaller, drugstore-like Target Express, like the location at Sansome & Bush in the Financial District.

We've reached out to Target for comment, but were unable to get a response in time for this story's publication.
