A hit-and-run at Union and Mason streets sent one victim to the hospital early this afternoon.

A Hoodline reporter at the scene witnessed the driver of a BMW run a red light and smash into a Prius at about 12:10pm. The driver of the BMW then exited his vehicle and ran from the scene, leaving behind a cellphone and one shoe.

Police and medical personnel arrived on the scene around 12:20pm. One victim, a man age 50-60, was transported to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Update, 1:45pm: Police officers at the scene have confirmed that the suspect involved in today's collision was being chased by police following an attempt to break into homes around Lombard Street. One other suspect involved in the attempted robbery has been taken into custody.
