A man has been arrested in an attempted kidnapping of a juvenile that occurred last night in West Portal.

At about 5pm, a 13-year-old girl was walking on the unit block of Forest Side Avenue (at Taraval) when a man in his 20s got out of his vehicle, grabbed her, and tried to pull her inside. The girl screamed, and several witnesses came to her aid.

The suspect then took off in his vehicle, heading south on Forest Side Avenue. The girl was being attended at the scene by a parent, but it's unclear if she sustained any injuries in the attack.

As of this morning, police say an arrest has been made in the case. More information is expected to emerge later today.

Update, 12:14pm: The suspect has been identified by police as 27-year-old Lee Mason Eigl. Eigl was arrested around 1am this morning, after police investigators spotted the vehicle allegedly involved in the attack outside his home.

Eigl was identified thanks to the two witnesses who helped rescue the 13-year-old girl, providing a description and partial license plate to police.
