Joining more than 600 cities worldwide, an estimated 15,000 people marched down Market Street today to celebrate science and scientists at a time when many believe they are increasingly under threat from the policies of President Donald Trump.
Protestors, many scientists themselves, came out to oppose proposed cuts to government agencies, including the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Institute of Health.
Coinciding with Earth Day, the march kicked off at 11am with a rally at Justin Herman Plaza, with marchers heading from the plaza to Civic Center Plaza via Market Street. The day finished up with a science fair at Civic Center Plaza from 3-6pm.
