For those who blur the line between dinner and dessert, the news of Portland-based ice cream outlet Salt & Straw's expansion to San Francisco has been greeted with anticipation.
While its shops in Pacific Heights and Hayes Valley are still under construction, ice cream fans can get a sneak peak of Salt & Straw's unusual flavors—like blue cheese and pear or ramen—at three pop-ups around the city, starting tonight.
As Salt & Straw prepares to launch its first shop at 2201 Fillmore St., it plans to partner with local Bay Area companies to develop new flavors. Each shop will feature a selection of classic flavors, flavors inspired by local partners, and seasonal offerings.
First on the list is a collaboration with Sightglass Coffee and Dandelion Chocolate, which you can sample at the pop-ups. The flavor list for the pop-ups also includes roasted strawberry tres leches, almond brittle with salted ganache, strawberry coriander leaf sorbet, and green apple mayo sherbet.
Here's where to find the pop-ups:
- Tonight: Off the Grid, Fort Mason, 5-10 pm
- Sunday: Mudpie (2185 Fillmore St.), 12-5 pm
- Thursday, Westfield San Francisco Centre (at Under the Dome), 11am-2pm
The current plan is for the Fillmore Street location to open this coming Friday, April 14th, with the Hayes Valley location (Hayes and Laguna streets) arriving this summer.
