Just before 11am today, a taxi van heading eastbound on Haight veered left at Cole and jumped the curb, displacing a trash can and driving through the wall of a Wells Fargo ATM vestibule, dislocating its wall and shattering the windows.

No one at the scene was reported injured and witnesses said the ATM vestibule was empty. The taxi also narrowly missed hitting Coffee Cantata and the service entrance to Goodwill.

Mysteriously, though, witnesses said the driver was missing.

Three police cruisers responded to the scene and a crowd of around 20 people gathered minutes after the crash occurred, taking pictures and speculating what might have happened. SFPD Park Station officers reporting to the scene were observed taking documentary photos on smartphones and laughing.

We'll keep you posted when we learn more.
