At least four people were injured around 9:20am today after two AC Transit buses collided near Fremont and Folsom streets, police reported.

One bus was heading north on Fremont Street when it hit several other vehicles, including another bus, said police spokesperson Officer Robert Rueca.

The bus then went over the sidewalk and struck the scaffolding of a nearby building. Passengers had to be extracted from the buses.

According to a rider on one of the buses, the sidewalk was "destroyed" in the crash. The bus also struck a street lamp and went through some greenery before "coming to a stop in a construction zone," the passenger said.

While no pedestrians were injured, four people were taken to a hospital, including one of the drivers.

Police are investigating the incident and looking into whether or not a bus driver had a medical emergency.

The off-ramp to Fremont and Folsom streets from westbound I-80 was closed as police investigated the scene. It has since reopened, but the Harrison Street. exit remains closed.
