An unknown assailant stabbed two men last night in the Mission after a verbal altercation involving five people escalated to violence.

In the incident, which occurred at 6:20pm on the 1000 block of Potrero Street near San Francisco General Hospital, two male suspects described as 19 or 20 years old approached a 25-year-old man and a 34-year-old man before an argument ensued.

The suspects left the scene and returned with a third man, also 19 or 20, who was carrying a knife. At that point, a physical fight began, and the third suspect stabbed both victims before all three assailants fled the scene.

Both victims were transported to a hospital; the younger victim suffered life-threatening wounds, while the 34-year-old is expected to survive his injuries.

Anyone who has information about this incident is encouraged to contact SFPD via the department's anonymous tip line at 415-575-4444, or text TIP411 with "SFPD" at the start of the message.

Here’s why we usually don’t include suspect descriptions in crime reports.
