New Japanese Spot 'Kaisen Don' Debuts In Ingleside TerracesPhoto: Kaisen Don/Yelp

A new sushi bar and Japanese spot has opened up in the neighborhood. The new addition to Ingleside Terraces, Kaisen Don, is located at 1939 Ocean Ave. (between Ashton Ave & Fairfield Way).

This new spot specializes in donburi, a traditional Japanese rice bowl made with seafood, meat, or veggies.

On the menu, expect to see dishes like uni (sea urchin) ikura (salmon roe) don, rainbow don (a mix of tuna, yellow tail, and salmon sashimi), char siu don with soft-boiled egg; unagi don (freshwater eel); and gyu don with beef and onions.

There's ochazuke on the menu as well, typically a breakfast dish, with hot green tea, hondashi broth, and nori poured over rice.

The restaurant also has an uni special for in-house diners every Tuesday through Thursday.

With a four-star rating out of five reviews on Yelp so far, the new sushi bar has made a promising start.

Yelper Big Day Service S. said: “This is definitely our favorite chirashi don (Japanese seafood bowl) place! It's so conveniently located in our neighborhood and the interior is very sleek and clean. We tried their Scallop and Ikura.”

And Ron L. added: "Amazing new Japanese Restaurant. I had the Curry Beef was delicious. My buddy had the Unagi and he loved it. We found this new place to eat and will be back. The staff is very nice. Leaving with smile."

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Kaisen Don is open daily from 5:30pm–9pm.
