A two-alarm fire in an apartment building at 545 O’Farrell St. last night displaced 37 adult tenants and left one person injured.

The fire broke out at around 7:15pm on the fourth floor of a five-story, 80-unit building located between Leavenworth and Jones streets.

It grew to a second-alarm fire by 7:25pm, snarling traffic on the highly-trafficked street and blocking in a 38-Geary Bus.

Firefighters contained the blaze by 8:00pm and had it under control by 8:46pm. All tenants and their pets were evacuated, but a person who suffered from smoke inhalation is in stable condition.

The Red Cross and city services were notified immediately, according to SFFD, and an emergency shelter is now established at Gene Friend Recreation Center.
