Here's a roundup of notable crimes reported in the Tenderloin since our last edition. All details are drawn from SFPD daily reports, unless otherwise noted.

Police respond to gunfire, arrest hostage holder

Around 12:45pm on January 9th, police heard gunfire and saw a 35-year-old man with a handgun on the 200 block of Turk Street (near Jones).

Officers followed the man to his residence, where he barricaded himself inside with a 36-year-old woman. Members of the department's SWAT and Hostage Negotiation Teams responded and the suspect was ultimately arrested. 

Man arrested after firing gun on sidewalk

A 19-year-old man was arrested for firing a gun into the air on the 200 block of Leavenworth Street (near Turk) around 11:53pm on January 7th. No injuries or property damage was reported.

Man injured after intervening in fight

Around 8:00pm on January 7th, a 37-year-old man who intervened in a fight between unknown parties in UN Plaza was struck and lost consciousness.

Although the police arrived on scene, the suspect(s) fled and have not been identified. The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.  

Man stabbed from behind

Just before 2:00am on January 5th, a 23-year-old man was approached from behind on the 400 block of Jones Street (near O’Farrell) by a man of unknown age, who stabbed the victim and fled on foot.

The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries but the suspect has not been identified.

Man punched, robbed on Jones Street

Two men of unknown age punched a 29-year-old man several times around 10:00pm on January 4th near the intersection of Jones and Post streets.

The suspects stole the victim’s backpack, wallet, passport, and money. The victim took himself to the hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. No arrest has been made. 

Man attacked, kicked, and robbed on Taylor Street

A 50-year-old male suspect attacked a 60-year-old man near the intersection of Turk and Taylor streets around 7:50pm on January 4th, causing the victim to fall to the ground and drop his property.

The suspect kicked the victim while he was on the ground, stole his cell phone and fled southbound on Taylor Street, but was later arrested.

Woman arrested after arson attempt

A 52-year-old woman was observed setting newspapers and tree branches on fire, causing damage to a building on the 100 block of Mason Street (at Eddy) around 6:45am on January 4th.

The suspect confronted a nearby security guard who saw the blaze and placed her under arrest until police arrived. 

Man found unconscious after attack on O’Farrell

At 9:56pm on January 2nd, police responded to a call and found an injured 35-year-old man near the intersection of Ada Court and O’Farrell Street.

The victim had been punched, kicked, and knocked unconscious by an unknown suspect who has not been identified. 

Car-leaner punched by car-owner

Around 3:48pm on January 2nd, a 57-year-old man leaned on an unknown suspect’s vehicle on the 100 block of Golden Gate Avenue (near Jones).

The suspect told the victim to get off his vehicle, got out of the car, and punched the victim, causing him to fall to the ground. The suspect fled the scene and hasn’t been identified. 

Man thrown to ground faces life-threatening injuries 

Two men, one 40 and the other 56, got into a fight around 1:00pm on January 2nd near the intersection of 9th and Mission streets.

The younger man picked up the victim and threw him to the ground, causing life-threatening injuries. The suspect has been arrested.

Man found unconscious after attack

Around 2:35am on January 1st, medics arrived at the intersection of Larkin and Grove streets to find an unconscious 23-year-old man face down on the sidewalk and suffering from a head injury.

The victim, who was transported to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, had been beaten by multiple suspects who remain at large. 

Argument escalates to stabbing

A 39-year-old man was following a man said to be in his twenties around 5:54pm on December 31st near the intersection of Ellis and Jones streets, when they got into an argument.

After the victim spat in the suspect’s face, the suspect stabbed him in the neck and fled west on Ellis. The victim was treated for a non-life-threatening wound. 

Man shot during botched armed robbery

Just before 9pm on December 30th, a 33-year-old man was near the intersection of 6th and Stevenson when an unknown man unsuccessfully tried to rob him.

The suspect pulled out a handgun, shot the victim in the left leg, and fled on foot. The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening, and no arrest was made.
