San Ramon Valley Schools Team with Police for E-Bike and Scooter Safety CampaignSource: Town of Danville

To ramp up student safety, the San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD) has hit the play button on a campaign to quickly educate its students and their parents on the ABCs of e-bike and scooter safety. With the increasing popularity of such electric vehicles for school commutes, SRVUSD partnered with local law enforcement to shift gears toward preventing accidents.

The district has rolled out a safety video featuring Diablo Vista Middle School principal Jeff Osborn and Danville Police Chief Allan Shields as part of this push. The duo tackled safety on e-scooters and e-bikes, particularly navigating shared spaces like the Iron Horse Trail. "The safety and well-being of our students is a top priority," Dr. John Malloy, Superintendent of SRVUSD, told Danville.ca.gov, emphasizing the district's call to action for all within the community to view the resources.

The newly introduced SRVUSD At-a-Glance Summary Safety Chart also provides straightforward, digestible information on everything from general safety tips to specific laws applicable to young riders. The overarching message: helmets are not just an accessory, they're a must for anyone under 18, and obeying road signs is as critical on two wheels as it is on four.

Moreover, the resources produced by SRVUSD feature a detour into specific sections like e-scooters, bike lanes, and parking lot safety, nurturing an environment where students can to safely increase their knowledge of road regulations. "We encourage all parents and students to watch our E-Bike and Scooter Safety video so that all are well-informed, and our students, riders, pedestrians, and drivers can stay safe," Malloy stressed, according to a statement obtained by DanvilleSanRamon.com.
