Detroit residents should brace themselves for a mixed bag of precipitation and gusty conditions this week, according to the latest weather updates. With snow showers expected to mix with rain after noon and then gradually end today, locals are facing a high of 38 degrees amid cloudy skies. Winds from the west are blowing at 8 to 11 mph, and might gust as high as 20 mph, with a 50% chance of precipitation, reports the National Weather Service.

The temperature is set to drop tonight to around 31, with west winds slowing to 5 to 8 mph becoming light and variable. Tomorrow will likely bring more noticeable changes as rain and snow showers are expected to start after 1 p.m., transforming completely into rain showers after 3 p.m. The temperature could climb to nearly 39 degrees, but with east winds 10 to 20 mph, and possibly reaching gusts as high as 34 mph, the chance of precipitation is at a near-certain 90%, with roughly an inch of new snow accumulation possible.

Friday night's forecast predicts rain showers continuing until around 1 a.m., then switching back to snow showers. The temperatures are expected to plummet to a low of about 26 degrees. The wind, initially from the east-southeast at a blustery 26 to 34 mph, is set to swing south-southwest after midnight. Some gusts could potentially amp up to a swift 50 mph, with a surefire chance of precipitation gauged at 100%. Less than a half-inch of new snow could lay down.

Saturday will see ongoing snow showers, primarily before 1 p.m., and temperatures hovering near 30 degrees. It's going to be a windy day with west-southwest winds blowing hard at 30 to 34 mph, which could rage up to 50 mph gusts. The likelihood of precipitation remains high at 80%. Another bout is forecast for Saturday night with a 50% chance of snow showers, as temperatures dip further to around 14 degrees—a chilly and windy night.

Looking ahead to Sunday, the forecast is still calling for snow showers with a 40% chance of precipitation, under cloudy conditions, with the high struggling to reach 19 degrees in the windy climate. The subsequent evening anticipates a modest relief, being mostly cloudy and the mercury falling to about 6 degrees, albeit breezy. Detroiters should look for more clouds and arctic air on M.L.King Day with a high near 15 degrees, and Monday night's low around 5 degrees.

The coming week doesn't seem to offer much in terms of a warm-up, as Tuesday also carries a chance of snow showers with a high near 14 degrees and the nighttime forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with a low around 4 degrees. In a similar pattern, Wednesday should remain mostly cloudy with temperatures rising slightly to a windy 19 degrees. Detroiters will need to keep their winter gear at hand as they navigate through this wintry week of weather.
