A Boston man already facing sex trafficking charges was arraigned this week on new charges including rape of a child, with authorities ordering him held without bail before Monday's dangerousness hearing, the Suffolk District Attorney's office reported.

John Jamar Cokley, 38, appeared before Dorchester BMC on Thursday, his litany of charges a grim roster: sex trafficking of a minor, child rape by force, aggravated statutory rape, and possession of child pornography, among others. According to the district attorney's statement, Cokley allegedly used Instagram to groom and exploit three teenagers over several months.

The accused met with the teens separately, picking them up near their homes and assaulting them in his vehicle, a white Honda Accord. Assistant District Attorney Ashley Polin said Cokley recorded the assaults and pressured the minors into additional sexual acts, some of which include statutory rape and forcible rape of a child. Two of the victims were also allegedly given drugs and money as part of this exploitation.

Cokley faces new allegations in addition to charges from March related to trafficking and drug distribution. If released on bail, he was previously ordered to submit to GPS monitoring. District Attorney Kevin Hayden commended the bravery of the young victims for coming forward, "Cases involving manipulation and sexual exploitation of children are devastating, and all too common in today’s online world," Hayden remarked in the official statement.

Resources for those affected by similar crimes were highlighted by the district attorney, with mentions of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Suffolk County and the Stop Block and Talk internet safety program. Contact information for these resources, as well as others provided for reporting child exploitation, were provided in recognition of the critical nature of community vigilance in such heinous matters.
