Castro Independent Pharmacy Tin Rx Shutters After 4 YearsPhoto: Steven Bracco/Hoodline

Castro independent pharmacy Tin Rx Pharmacy (2181 Market Street) has shuttered after four years in the Castro.

The pharmacy quietly closed over the weekend with no announcement or sign posted at the storefront.

Pharmacist Dr. Christina Garcia and chief operating officer Patricia "PJ" Nachman, who are partners in both business and life, opened Tin Rx in 2019.

Garcia and Nachman did not respond to Hoodline's request for comment.

The Castro was Tin Rx's flagship location, which was headquartered in mid-Market's Fox Plaza and had two other outposts in Northern California's Tehama County (Los Molinos and Corning). Tin Rx opened an additional location in L.A.'s West Hollywood in 2019.

Going by the slogan "a stigma-free pharmacy," TIN Rx was the first independent pharmacy to dispense PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis), the HIV prevention drug commonly known as Truvada. It also offered guidance for transgender patients undergoing hormone therapy, and HIV-positive patients maintaining a medication regimen.

TIN Rx also offered customers a 24-hour automatic drug dispensing (ADDS) machine.

On Tuesday an employee assisting with the store's closure told Hoodline that Tin Rx had closed all its locations.

Tin Rx filled one of three retail storefronts in the triangular-shaped mixed-used apartment building at Market and 15th streets. Its space was formerly a portion of food hall The Myriad, which closed in 2018.

Earlier this year the Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit for boutique fitness studio [solidcore] to open at 2175 Market St. The space had sat vacant since the building was completed in 2015.

The third space is occupied by Amazon-owned One Medical.

At this time a new tenant for the space has not been announced.
