Former Cy-Fair High School Teacher Charged With Sexual Misconduct With StudentSource: Harris County Jail

A former teacher from Cy-Fair High School, Kayden Burbank, is facing charges for an alleged sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student. Charged with improper relationship with a student, Burbank appeared in court Friday and was hit with the condition to wear a GPS ankle monitor if released on a $60,000 bond, as reported by KHOU11.

The accusations surfaced after Burbank's girlfriend discovered incriminating text messages between him and the student: "I smell like you haha, I smell really sweet right now ha, I like you :)." Burbank's phone was investigated, to which he consented, confirming the inappropriate exchanges, according to court records. The teacher, who had been placed on administrative leave on April 2, resigned a week later on the day he was charged with the crime, as reported by KHOU11.

In the court appearance on Friday, the ripples of Burbank's alleged actions stirred the waters of justice as the 29-year-old stood to hear the terms of his bond, Click2Houston reported. His stay behind bars at the Harris County Jail could be interrupted should he post bond and agree to 24/7 location monitoring.

The allegations were brought to light when Burbank’s girlfriend found text messages between him and the student on his phone. The student described to authorities that Burbank picked her up after school - they then drove to another location and engaged in sexual activity; on March 25 they met at a hotel where they had sex, as corroborated by text messages and a hotel receipt. The underage girl allegedly provided precise times for their hotel encounter from 3:50 p.m. to 4:22 p.m., after which they cuddled and returned to the school as confirmed by security footage and police finding the hotel receipt that matched the student's account of the incident.

Cy-Fair ISD has not issued further comments on the matter since Burbank's arrest and the ongoing legal proceedings. Burbank remains in custody and is scheduled for his next court date on June 26.
