A 66-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his 74-year-old ex-girlfriend after she was found dead in her Houston apartment earlier this month, officials said. Clifton John Allen was arrested on Friday and is set to quickly appear in court, facing a murder charge in connection to the death of Carol Webber. Webber’s body was discovered unresponsive on the floor of her apartment at 2501 Westerland Drive around 2:30 p.m. on April 13, according to the City of Houston's news release.

The Houston Police Department's Sergeant C. Ponder and Detective K. Amri were the first respondents at the scene. They called in the Houston Fire Department paramedics, who pronounced Webber dead at the scene. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences later confirmed she had suffered a gunshot wound.

After an investigation that lasted nearly two weeks, authorities identified Allen as the suspect. The duo had been in a previous dating relationship, with Allen believed to have fatally shot Webber. According to police sources, Allen was taken into custody without incident and has since been charged with Webber's murder.
