Knoxvillians looking to spring clean their homes have the chance to declutter and do good at the same time. On Saturday, April 27, locals can contribute to a noble cause by donating gently used goods at a donation drive hosted by Make-A-Wish East Tennessee, in partnership with America’s Thrift Store. Items like clothing, shoes, and household goods are all welcome, with the added bonus that each pound of donations translates into funding for the wishes of children facing critical illnesses.

In what promises to be as simple as "driving through to get your coffee," according to Garrett Wagley, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish East Tennessee, Knoxville residents can drive up and have their donated items unloaded by staff. WVLT-TV reports that the drive-through drop-off event will take place at 9123 Executive Park Drive, where the store is slated to open this summer. Make-A-Wish East Tennessee reminds the community the event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Beyond clothing and household items, the driver is also seeking furniture, working electronics, and shoes. The message is clear that community support directly translates into real-life magic for the youngsters in question. "Wishes don't happen for these kids who are battling critical illnesses without the support of local people," Wagley told WBIR. "So local wishes happen because of local donors and local volunteers, so we really need people to come out."

The spirit of the event is geared toward community building and generosity, a stitch in the social fabric strengthening as people rally for a common good. Echoing the need for local backing, Wagley emphasizes the significance of philanthropy rooted in the community. As residents part with the old and usher in the new, they ignite a beacon of hope for children who find themselves ensnared by health tribulations, all while embodying the spirit of giving that is often talked about but less often materialized.
