In a disturbing incident at a Memphis elementary school, a 7-year-old student was found with a loaded gun in his backpack, as reported by the Memphis Police Department (MPD). The unsettling discovery took place at Evans Elementary School in the Parkway Village area.
The incident occurred around 8:40 a.m. on Friday, April 26, prompting a police response. According to Local Memphis, the young student was in possession of a handgun, which was later secured by authorities. Thankfully, there were no reports of injuries connected to this incident.
Additional details obtained by WREG News disclosed that the 7-year-old had taken the gun from a guardian and had shown it to classmates before a fellow student alerted the staff. Responding swiftly to the situation, the child was then taken into custody by the Department of Child Services as the investigation into the circumstances continues.
The gravity of the situation was heightened when an account from MPD noted, relayed by FOX13 Memphis, shared the child's plea to the principal, "Please don't tell my grandma!" after he was asked about the gun. The firearm was then discovered and confiscated, with no immediate disclosure from MPD on how the child accessed the weapon or if any charges would be pressed.
