In a renewed bid to resolve a cold case that's turned two years colder, LASD Sheriff Robert G. Luna has made a public appeal for assistance in the murder of Raul Cervantes Corona, who was fatally shot in Norwalk back in December 2020. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) shared during a press conference, details about the unresolved case and asked for any information leading to the arrest of Corona's killer, as noted in a department social media account and announcement.

Corona's life was cut short in the parking lot of the 10900 block of Rosecrans Avenue while supposedly meeting a friend for a leisurely off-road vehicle outing; the 32-year-old was found with a gunshot wound in the driver's seat of his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, the incident, as described by the Whittier Daily News. The suspect, donning red at the time of the murder, managed to flee to a light gray Kia Forte quickly after the shooting Luna stated that this same individual had been seen at a nearby gas station moments before the murder, and surveillance video captured a man with an "Ace of Spades" tattoo on his right hand the Sheriff's Department also released details of a person of interest, 23-year-old JaMaree Boone.

Motives behind this senseless act remain a mystery, especially as nothing was stolen from Corona, "including Raul's wallet, cellphone, truck, or the off-road vehicle he was towing," Sheriff Luna conveyed. Investigators have published a witness-provided sketch of the sought individual and continue their appeal for information about the driver of the getaway vehicle as well as the whereabouts of Boone.

The LASD insists the capture of Corona's killer is of utmost importance and is urging the public to come forward with any potentially pivotal information, promising to maintain caller anonymity, calls can be placed at 323-890-5500 while anonymous tips can be directed to Crime Stoppers by dialing 800-222-TIPS (8477), the Sheriff's Department has detailed avenues for providing such tips reflecting their commitment to crack this case and procure justice for the victim and his family as conveyed in announcements echoed by the LASD.
