Maricopa County Warns of Traffic Delays Due to Pavement Project on Sun Valley ParkwaySource: City of Surprise

The Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) has announced lane closures and likely delays on the stretch from Interstate 10 to Bell Road. The pavement preservation project, set to kick off on April 29 is expected to keep one lane open in both directions but could slow down commutes for approximately two weeks.

According to information from Surprise City News, the undertaking will involve applying a preservative seal to the current asphalt concrete pavement. The project not only includes re-striping the road within 72 hours post-seal but also plans to install to quickly lay down new pavement markings and finish up other miscellaneous tasks.

The first order of work will consist of refurbishing the section from Desert Oasis Boulevard to Bell Road, mileposts 121-132, and is scheduled from April 29 through May 7. Following that, the second section, just north of Interstate 10 to Indian School Road, mileposts 104-108 will undergo maintenance from May 8 through May 13. With work hours spanning from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, disruptions are expected to be limited to daytime traffic.

Officials are urging drivers to stay alert for work crews present and to adhere to all posted traffic control signs. The MCDOT is asking motorists to be ready to slow down in the work zones and ensure safety for everyone involved. Questions related to the project can be directed to 602.506.3342 or emailed to [email protected]. Moreover, it's important to note that these plans could potentially shift as they are subject to change due to factors beyond MCDOT’s control, such as weather or equipment failures.
