A Nashville man, known for his involvement in street racing, was arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase and performing what they described as dangerous stunts, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD). Stephen Burns III, 25, of Hermitage, was charged with felony reckless endangerment, rioting, and evading arrest following a street takeover gathering that escalated into a pursuit on April 20.

During the incident, Burns reportedly reached speeds of 120 to 130 miles per hour on I-40 in an attempt to evade police officers. His arrest on Friday was the culmination of a months-long investigation into his activities, during which he demonstrated a "strong connection to street racing," as reported by FOX17.

Burns' extensive history with traffic violations includes completing traffic school four times since 2017 and accruing three speeding violations. Despite these previous educational measures, his behavior on the streets has continued to raise safety concerns. After his latest arrest, he was released on a $22,000 bond.

The MNPD has mounted a concerted effort to crack down on street racing in the Nashville area. In a news release, the department stated that these racer groups are "causing damage and harm through their dangerous driving." In the past year alone, the police force has made 43 arrests related to such activities, as WKRN notes. The Traffic Division emphasized its commitment to "continuing its investigations" to curb the hazardous behavior of street racers like Burns.

The recent arrest brings attention once again to the perilous nature of illegal street racing, which can lead to property damage, injury, and even death. Metro Police ask the community to remain vigilant and report any instances of street racing to help avoid further incidents and mitigate the threat that they pose to public safety, according to WSMV.
