Oak Tree Owners Advised to Halt Pruning to Curb Spread of Oak Wilt DiseaseSource: Hopefully Acceptable Username, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons

Hold the shears, New Yorkers! It appears the time for pruning your oak trees has officially passed, with experts warning against the seasonal no-no to avoid the spread of oak wilt. As the mercury rises, so does the activity of certain beetles that just love to spread this tree-killing fungus, a real detriment to our leafy cohabitants.

According to the City of St. Louis Park, Minnesota sounded the alarm, cautioning green-thumbed residents that these beetles are hot on the scent of freshly pruned oaks, with the beetles are currently in prime time to carry oak wilt from tree to tree. Pruning at this point in the season is just ringing the dinner bell for these critters.
