Southaven Residents to Face Higher Trash Fees with New WastePro Management Starting MaySource: Facebook/City of Southaven - Municipal Government

Southaven residents are bracing for a shake-up in the way they dispose of trash and recycling, alongside a spike in their monthly bills. Starting May 1, WastePro will step in to take over the city's waste management from Waste Connections. According to The Commercial Appeal, while the regular waste carts will remain, WastePro will be providing new recycling carts to those residents choosing to opt-in for the service at an additional charge.

The Commercial Appeal also reports that residents can now expect to pay $20 per month for a single cart, with an extra $11.35 tacked on for any additional carts they might need. And for those participating in recycling, a separate fee of $12.61 per month will be applied. Previously, Southaven citizens were accustomed to a lower fee of $12, but now, under the new management, residents will begin paying $17.64, stated the Daily Memphian.

This transition not only affects the billing cycle, it also disrupts weekly routines. Some neighborhoods can expect a change in garbage collection days as WastePro reorganizes its routes. Residents are advised to check Southaven's Facebook post for a city map outlining the new collection days to see when their trash and recycling will be picked up under the new schedule.

While these changes usher in a new era of waste management for Southaven, they come with a burden on the community's purse. Despite the disruption and financial increase, the Board of Aldermen's decision aims to improve waste disposal services. As reported by Here Memphis, residents previously paying $12 a month will have to adjust to the new fee of $17.64 as Waste Pro takes the reins on sanitation services.
