Calling all bikers of Anoka County – grab your helmets and hit the pedals! It's National Bike Month and local officials are rolling out several biking events for everyone to join. Residents can participate in Bike to Work Week from May 13-17, as well as a series of 'Bike to the Library' days and an Environmental Fun Fair, all designed to get folks out and about on two wheels, according to Anoka County's official website.

For those looking to ditch their car for the week, Bike to Work Week offers the chance to pledge to ride at least once between Monday and Friday. Participants who check in at the Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park on Bike to Work Day, May 17, have the evening to look forward to giveaways from 4-7 p.m. On the following day, May 18, the Fridley Environmental Fun Fair will welcome visitors at the Springbrook Nature Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., as per the Anoka County.

The biking festivities don't end there. Anoka County Commissioner Julie Jeppson, who chairs the county’s Transportation Committee, emphasized the importance of these events. "There are numerous benefits to biking and Anoka County is proud to support events promoting safe bicycle activity during Bike Month," Jeppson said in a statement. According to her, Anoka County boasts over 85 miles of trails in its park system alone, encouraging residents to take full advantage of the spring weather and sprawling bike paths.

If the library's your destination, mark your calendar for a trifecta of Bike to the Library days starting May 20 at the Mississippi Branch, followed by events at the Northtown Branch on May 21 and the Crooked Lake Branch on May 24, as detailed by the Anoka County. Sidewalk cycling may be a no-go in downtown Anoka, but for most parts of the county, it's a go, so long they stay clear of central business districts. Before you hop on your bike, don't forget to perform an "ABC" check, ensuring air, brakes, and the chain are all set for a smooth ride.
