Berkeley's Famed Cancún Sabor Mexicano Opens New Location at Oakland AirportSource: Oakland International Airport

Travelers passing through Oakland International Airport have a new dining option to sample. A staple of the Berkeley food scene, Cancún Sabor Mexicano has opened its doors in Terminal 1, offering authentic Mexican cuisine to folks on the go. With 30 years under its belt in downtown Berkeley, the beloved eatery is serving everything from tacos and burritos to vegan options right next to Gate 9.

The opening of Cancún Sabor Mexicano is part of a larger effort by OAK to refresh its food and beverage offerings, focusing on local flavors. According to a release by Oakland International Airport, this latest addition is the eleventh new concession to hit the terminal floors. Operated by the African American-owned Soaring Food Group, Cancún's airport outpost stays true to its roots with a range of popular eats, including a unique vegan al pastor and vegan chorizo.

The restaurant has been a go-to spot for many East Bay residents, particularly among Berkeley High School and University of California, Berkeley students. "We are very pleased to be unveiling our newest restaurant, Cancún Sabor Mexicano for our Terminal 1 passengers," said Craig Simon, Interim Director of Aviation at the Port of Oakland, in the aforementioned release. The airport branch promises to maintain the quality and taste patrons have enjoyed on Berkeley's streets for decades.

Foodies who despise the typical pre-flight rush can indulge in Cancún's daily offerings, operating from 8:00 AM to 9:00 p.m. daily. Whether for an early breakfast burrito before a crack-of-dawn flight or some evening nachos before jetting off, Cancún Sabor Mexicano seems ready to cater to a diverse palette. And for those keeping it light, there’s salad and ceviche on the menu, too.
