Tragedy struck Flint, Michigan, as the body of 6-year-old Tahj Evans, who went missing a nearly a week ago, was discovered in Flint River. Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson confirmed the grim find on Saturday morning just south of Ballenger Highway bridge, behind McLaren Health System.

"We found her. Baby Tahj has been recovered," Swanson delivered the heart-wrenching news in a video. According to ABC12, the recovery was made around 10:15 a.m. following extensive efforts by dive teams from across the state.

The young girl was reported missing on April 28 and was presumed to have drowned after falling into the river near Sunset Drive and Bradley Avenue. Efforts to locate her engaged multiple agencies and search teams, who tirelessly scoured the area for days. The Genesee County Sheriff's office coordinated these efforts, with Captain Rick Conkrite leading the operation. "Thanks for all the efforts," Swanson acknowledged the community's and dive teams' dedication in a message obtained by MLive.

Tahj's tragic death came just a day after another young boy, aged 7, drowned in an unrelated incident in the same river, amplifying concerns about water safety in the area. Sergeant Scott Mangrum, dive team commander, said that crews from Genesee County, Lapeer County, and Michigan State Police worked diligently in and around the Flint River during the search, as reported by WNEM. Swanson has promised more details in the future as the community begins to mourn the devastating loss of young Tahj Evans.
