Houston Woman Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash on East Loop SouthSource: Houston Police Department

A woman has been slapped with charges following a deadly crash where a man was struck and killed at 600 East Loop South in Houston, authorities said. Alma Alicia Zavala, 32, faces charges for failure to stop and render aid after the crash Wednesday evening, as stated by the City of Houston News.

The fatal collision unfolded around 6:20 p.m. when Zavala, behind the wheel of a silver Mazda CX5, allegedly veered off the road smashing into an innocent 35-year-old man walking with a woman who thankfully walked away unscarred as per the details from HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant P. Lee and Officer N. Luu.

Witnesses came together to bring Zavala's attempted escape to a swift end, corralling her nearby the crash scene until cops arrived and took her into custody. When evaluated by police officers, Zavala apparently exhibited no signs of being under the influence, the report noted.

The victim, whose name hasn't been released pending confirmation, was rushed to Ben Taub General Hospital by Houston Fire Department paramedics, but despite the best efforts of medical experts he was declared dead, marking yet another life needlessly lost on the city's dangerous thoroughfares, the aftermath of the incident was processed and presented by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office leading to Zavala's charges in the tragic event.
